Throughout the Scubalot site you may see small icons at the bottom of the page that look like this:

Those icons are RSS Feed icons and are used to subscribe to a feed of content from that page. What that means is that you will automatically have updates delivered to you instead of having to visit the site. So, if you're interested in new info about Victorian diving, you can just subscribe using the link at the bottom of the Victoria page.

If you know about RSS already, you probably know just how to usees these links. But, if you don't...

RSS aggregation capabilities are sometimes called "Live Bookmarks", or simply "Feeds". Here are some helpful reference sites which have a range of information that can be helpful in getting to know and benefit from RSS:

• Read Feed 101, an excellent overview for beginners from the great people at Feedburner.
• If you use Firefox, there is a Firefox Tutorial on how to add feeds, which are called "Live Bookmarks" in Firefox.
• Internet Explorer supports RSS feeds as of Version 7. Here is a fairly technical overview about how to use RSS feeds in the newest version of Internet Explorer.

If this all seems a bit daunting for beginners, it should. This has been a hot area of new development for the past few years. But, believe me, getting to know RSS feeds is very useful, and you'll find tens of thousands of useful feeds that will save you time when catching-up on daily news and information. Also, it's notable that the entire "podcasting" technology is really just RSS feeds in disguise.
